I thought I’d answer your tag questions :)

These honey bees are worker bees and are always female. There is only one queen and she’s usually much larger, at least 2-3 times bigger than the workers. She does not forage or gather pollen, her job is mainly to lay eggs and regulate the hive activity.

Male bees are called drones and they make up a very small percentage of the colony, usually only a few hundred to 1,000 in a hive. They do nothing but mate with the queen and are only useful in the spring/summer months, so any surviving males are usually expelled from the nest in fall.

As an added note, honey bees are not aggressive at all and will only sting if threatened, purely as a defense response. They are best bees!
